Sneak peak at the Note7 leak shows a iris scanner is coming

Habitual leaker Evan Blass has put an end to the rumors and discussions about the name of Samsung’s new Phablet. On his Twitter account, Blass published a picture of the logo for the new device, showing that its chosen name is the Galaxy Note7 (no space between the Note and the 7; beware of imitations), and that Samsung has chosen to skip the number 6. The symbolic significance is that the two leading technology manufacturers competing against each other are expected to present leading products with the digit “7”, but what Samsung is really trying to do is maintain continuity with the Galaxy S7 edge and the Galaxy S7, launched earlier this year.

But that’s not all

A name is all very well and good, but what we are really interested in is the technical specifications of the device. Fortunately, Blass has come through here, too. He says that the device will come in three colors – black, blue, and silver – and contain a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED screen, 64 GB of internal storage space with an expansion option using a microSD, and a 12-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. He adds that the device will be waterproof and dustproof, a feature shared by the company’s leading device, the Galaxy S7.

In addition, it appears that Samsung is emphasizing security, because the new Phablet will apparently include a mechanism based on an iris scanner. This mechanism is considered much safer than a fingerprint reader, for the simple reason that no two people in the world have the same eye pattern. In contrast to our fingers, which touch objects frequently and leave fingerprints, our eyes work a little differently, and are therefore a better means of protection.

Early this month, we reported that a picture and first video clip of the new Galaxy Note, aka Note 7, had leaked. The picture and clip in question look like 3D models designed to display the device within the company, or to partners. Assuming that these materials are authentic, they indicate that like the Galaxy S7 edge, the new Galaxy Note will have a screen with curved edges, and that is more or less all that can be learned from the leak.

Fortunately for potential buyers, July is just around the corner, and judging by the rumors, the South Korean company will probably launch its device at an announcement event on August 2, so everything will soon be revealed.
